Piz Boè

Seen the Sasso Lungo from Sass Pordoi from

The Piz Boe ( German: Boespitze ) is with 3152 meters, the highest mountain and only three peaks of the Sella Group in the Dolomites.

He is regarded as " the lightest three-thousand " of the Dolomites and is accessible from the top station of the cable car to the summit of Sass Pordoi in just over an hour, with some difficult passages are covered with wire ropes.

On the summit is located since 1969 Rifugio Capanna - Fassa, a small, cultivated in summer refuge with limited accommodation. In 1974, a highly visible phone reflector was built on the summit. Because of its easy accessibility, to the outstanding panoramas of cultivated refuge and despite the serious obstruction summit of Piz Boe is very often visited.

The Piz Boe also attracts one of the most difficult of all previously built via ferrata, the Piazzetta via ferrata ( Italian Via ferrata Cesare Piazzetta ). The first 150 meters of the climbing is extremely exhausting and demanding. This is followed by climbing the 1st and 2nd level of difficulty. This part is, however, not be underestimated, because on the one hand more sites are very airy; on the other (the most beautiful place ) a notch must be crossed by a suspension bridge. The Piazzetta - ferrata was established in 1982, and the first 150 meters are to be valued in its original state with the fifth difficulty. The largely vertical part of the cliff is predominantly south-facing, so that freezing and wet conditions are not to be feared. In the inclined rock free climbing passages, however, snow and ice remaining can cause unpleasant surprises.

More options for advancement exist from Passo Gardena and Corvara on the Franz Kostner hut. In addition to the two relatively simple normal routes from Sass Pordoi or Boèhütte exist opportunities for advancement on the via ferrata Pisciadù ( Gardena, difficult ), the Lichtenfelser ferrata ( Corvara, light) and the Valloner ferrata ( Corvara, middle). The ascent or descent through the Mezdì (Val de Mesdì ) should be done only by experienced mountaineers in good weather.

In addition, each year, an extreme mountain running to the Piz Boe is organized. The start is in the village of Canazei in Val di Fassa.
