Plancher-Bas

Plancher -Bas is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Plancher -Bas is located at an altitude of 421 m above sea level, about 13 km northwest of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the extreme east of the département, in the wide valley of the Rahin, in the southern Vosges between the heights of the Roc du Plainet in the west and Mont Ménard in the East.

The area of ​​29.12 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the landscape on the southern edge of the Vosges. From north to south the area is crossed by the valley of the Rahin a Bow stands south of Plancher -Bas to the west and provides drainage to Ognon. The flat alluvial plain is an average of 420 meters and has a maximum width of two kilometers on. It is used primarily for agricultural purposes. The municipal area of Rahin inflow of numerous tributaries, including the Ruisseau de Malembre and the Ruisseau de la Goutte from the east and the Ruisseau d' Ambiez receives from the west, which marks the southwestern boundary with its valley. The tributaries are dammed several times to ponds for fish farming.

In geological- tectonic regard, there is the valley of Plancher -Bas from alluvial deposits of Tertiary and Quaternary. The highs are composed predominantly of crystalline bedrock. Only in the southern section also Permian strata emerge. The entire municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

Neighboring communities of Plancher -Bas are face and Plancher -les -Mines to the north, Auxelles- skin, Auxelles -Bas and Lachapelle- sous- Chaux in the east, and Errevet Frahier -et- Chatebier in the south and Champagney and Ronchamp in the West.

History

The place name derives from the French word planche, which is to translate ( from a watercourse ) in German with board, plank, in the importance of small wooden footbridge. In the Middle Ages Plancher -Bas belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had occupied the monastery Lure, who owned vast forests here, and the rule of Passavant ( Champagney ). In 1552 the inhabitants were granted certain liberties. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. For a long time lived the population of oak plantations for the production of the tan. Along the Rahin to trade settled, which was dependent on hydropower (mills, paper mills and tanneries ). Today Plancher -Bas is a member of the nine- villages municipal association Communauté de communes Rahin et Chérimont.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Pancrace originally from 1488; after a fire in 1771, the ship and bell tower were then extensively rebuilt. In-room amenities include furnishings from the 18th century and numerous statues.

Population

With 1951 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Plancher -Bas is one of the major towns in the Haute- Saône. The previous high with respect to the number of inhabitants reached Plancher -Bas in 1886 with 2365 people. In the first half of the 20th century, the population declined steadily. Since the early 1970s, however, population growth is recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

The economic life of Plancher -Bas was influenced early on by a paper mill and metal processing industry. Thanks to the extensive municipal area to agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), forestry and fish farming have some significance. Today in Plancher -Bas numerous operations of small and medium enterprises. Among the important industries include metal processing, textile industry, plastics industry and construction. There are also businesses and service companies for the daily needs. In recent decades, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Belfort -Montbéliard.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Ronchamp by Giromagny. Further road links exist with face, Plancher -les -Mines and Frahier -et- Chatebier.
