Plant City is a city in Hillsborough County in the U.S. state of Florida with 34,721 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

The city is located in the east of the county, bounded on the east by Lakeland ( Polk County) and lies about 25 km east of Tampa.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 34,721 inhabitants distributed to 13,732 households. The population density was 592.5 inh. / Km ². 69.5 % of the population were white, 15.1% African American, 0.6 % Native American and 1.4% Asian Americans. 10.7% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.5% in different ethnic groups. 28.8 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 23.9 % of all households lived in 40.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 72.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.82 persons and the average family size is 3.28 people.

31.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.5 % were 20-39 years old, 25.0 % were 40-59 years old and 16.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 33 years. 48.4 % of the population were male and 51.6 % female.

The average annual income was $ 47,565, while 17.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 83.79 % of the population spoke Spanish 15.58% and 0.63 % had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

The city is crossed by Interstate 4, from U.S. Highway 92 and Florida State Roads 39, 566, 574 and 600. The Silver Star of the railway company Amtrak happened Plant City without stopping. In the southwest of the city of Plant City Airport is located.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 386 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were two murders, six rapes, 40 robberies, 136 injuries, 299 burglaries, 1,184 thefts, 140 vehicle thefts and eight arson.
