Ploudiry

Ploudiry ( Plouziri Breton ) is a commune with 891 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the west of Brittany in the département of Finistère and capital of the canton Ploudiry.

Location

The place is located about 25 kilometers (km) south of the Atlantic coast at the entrance of the English Channel. The major city and port of Brest is located 26 km west of Paris and about 470 km to the east (in straight line ).

History

In 1173 the parish was first mentioned under the name Ploediri.

Infrastructure

In Landerneau Landivisiau and there is the next departures of the highway E 50 towards Rennes and Daoulas one on the E 60 direction Nantes.

The train station of Brest is the end of TGV Atlantique to Paris and Landerneau hold regional trains towards Morlaix / Rennes and Quimper / Nantes.

Near the city of Brest is the regional airport Aéroport de Brest Bretagne.

Attractions

The parish of Ploudiry is constructed of two-tone granite. The parish church was built in its present form 1854-1857, after the tower collapsed in 1850 and had destroyed a part of the church. From the previous church, only the porch of 1655 remained.

The Calvary is here in the cemetery. The ossuary of 1635 is classified as a historical monument ( Monument historique ).
