Plouray

Plouray ( Breton: Plourae ) is a commune with 1108 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the Local Government Association Pays du Roi Morvan.

Geography

Plouray is located in the northwest of the department of Morbihan on the border with the department of Cotes -d'Armor and belongs to the Pays du Roi Morvan.

Neighboring communities are located in the department of Côtes- d'Armor in the north as well as communities Glomel Mellionnec in the northeast, Ploërdut in the Southeast, Saint- Tugdual in the south, southwest, and Langonnet Priziac in the west.

The village itself is located at the junction of D1 from Gourin after Guémené -sur -Scorff and D790 of Faouët after Rostrenen. The most important road is the N164 to the north.

The major bodies of water are the river and the creek Ellé Stanven. The Ellé also forms part of the western boundary of the municipality. In addition, there are several ponds of different sizes in the municipality.

Demographics

History

The municipality belongs to the historic region of Brittany Bro - Gwened (French Vannetais ) and within this region to region Bro Bourlet (French Pays Pourlet ) and shares his story. From 1793 until its dissolution in 1801 Plouray belonged to the Canton Langonnet. Since then, the church is assigned to the Canton Gourin.
