Pogorzela

Pogorzela [ pɔgɔʐɛla ] ( 1943-1945 German Brandenstein ) is a small town in Poland in the Wielkopolska Region with about 2,000 inhabitants. It is the seat of city and rural community in the powiat Gostyński.

History

The first mention of today's Pogorzela dates back to 1419th Probably 1458 was the site of a town. From the 15th century until 1658, the town was owned by the family Pogorzelski. In the 16th century, a school was established. In the 17th and 18th century brewery and distillery were important economic factors for Pogorzela. Probably burned in 1775 from the wooden town hall. 1785, a late-Gothic church was built. 1793, in the Second Partition of Poland, the place was awarded to Prussia. 1807, the site became part of the Duchy of Warsaw, 1815 it again fell to Prussia and became part of the circle Krotoschin, from 1887 the circle Koschmin. In 1856, the present Town Hall, built in 1862, a neo-Gothic Protestant church. On January 4, 1887 a fire department was established in the city. 1906 to 1907 there was a school strike, similar to the Września school strike, when the religious instruction was to be held in German. 1919/1920 was the site of part of the revived Poland. In September 1939 Pogorzela was occupied during the Polish campaign of the German Wehrmacht, subsequently renamed Pogorschella and on May 18, 1943 in Brandenstein. The occupation ended in 1945 with the invasion of the Red Army.
