Poisy

Poisy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Poisy is on 513 m above sea level. M., approximately 5 km west-northwest of the city of Annecy ( straight line ). The village stretches a scenic location on a formerly swampy plateau on the western edge of the basin of Annecy, at the foot of the Montagne d'Age, north of the valley of Fier, in Genevois.

The area of ​​11:33 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The southern boundary runs along the Fier, which is cut here in a gorge-like erosion valley about 100 m into the surrounding plateau. Below Poisy the gorge opens into a 1 km wide basin. History

The territory of Poisy was settled very early. Both in Brassilly and in Marny was during the Roman period an estate. A rich treasure with jewelry and tools from the 3rd century was discovered.

In the 12th century a priory was founded in Poisy, which was assumed in 1404 papal statement on the Abbey Entremont -en- Bornes.

Attractions

The village church of Poisy was rebuilt in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style, the Romanesque tower of the priory and taken two medieval stained glass windows were installed. In the hamlet Macully stands a castle.

Population

With 6851 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Poisy one of the larger towns in the Haute-Savoie region.
