Polyosma

Polyosma cunninghamii

Polyosma is a genus of flowering plants in the family of Escalloniaceae. The Polyosma species occur to north-eastern Australia and New Caledonia in the eastern Himalayas and southern China. The genus includes about 60 species.

Description

The Polyosma species are shrubs or trees. The opposite, stalked, simple leaves have a smooth or toothed margin. The leaves are turning black on drying. Stipules absent.

Are formed terminal, racemose inflorescences. The fragrant, hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are cruciform. The four fused sepals are long lasting. The four petals are fused Roehrig and yellowish - white or green. It's just a circle with four free stamens present; the stamens are hairy. The ovary is inferior. They are single-seeded berries.
