Geography

The district Pömmelte lies on the Elbe River, southeast of Magdeburg in the so-called Magdeburg, in a former mining area for brown coal. Coal mining was discontinued in 1924.

History

In 1292 Pömmelte was first mentioned in a deed. It is believed that the place was settled by immigrant Sorbs.
