Poniky
Poniky ( Ponik German, Hungarian Poník - to 1888 Pojnik ) is a town in central Slovakia with 1591 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and belongs to Okres Banská Bystrica, kraj a circle of Banskobystrický.
Geography
The municipality is located in the eastern part of the highlands Zvolenska highlands and the foothills of the Polana. Through the town flows the streams Malá Zolna, VeLka Zolna and Ponický creek that belong to the catchment area of the Hron. The center is located at an altitude of 502 m nm and is located 14 km from Banska Bystrica.
To the municipality next to the main village are also places Ponická Lehota (1888 amalgamated ) and Ponická Huta (1943 amalgamated ).
History
Poniky was first mentioned in 1282 as Ponyk writing and the first known owner was a certain champion Filip. 1400, the place became the town after iron ore, copper and gold deposits were discovered in the 14th century. The mining then took until 1571st In the years 1424-1848 Poniky manor belonged to the castle Liptsch. The relative prosperity ended in the 17th century with Turkish attacks and Hungarian uprisings able; the heaviest attack occurred in 1678, when the Turks had ravaged the place and completely burned down and at the same time enslaved many people. After the re-establishment of the town, the inhabitants were employed as foresters, shingle manufacturers and carters. Despite the heavy damage, and substantial changes to the site remained until the abolition of serfdom in 1848, the status of a town.
