Pont au Double

The Pont au Double Paris is a bridge over the Seine in the amount of the Notre Dame Cathedral. It connects the 4th to the 5th arrondissement on the Quai de Montebello.

The Pont au Double crosses the small arm of the Seine between the Pont de l' ARCHEVEQUE upriver, on the eastern tip of the Île de la Cité, and the Petit Pont downstream.

History

At this point, there was already a primitive bridge, which was in 1634 from the Hôtel -Dieu, which stood here on the Ile de la Cité, built in the 17th century. For the construction of a new bridge, the site was free, as Baron Haussmann was laid in 1865, the Hôtel -Dieu and demolish the old buildings.

The name of the bridge is derived from the Wegzoll amounting to a double denier, which had to be paid when crossing.
