Pope Honorius III

Honorius III, actually Cencio Savelli, (* around 1148 in Rome, † March 18, 1227 ibid.). Was Pope from 1216 to 1227 greatest importance for the history of the Church, he won by the Approval of the Rules of the Dominicans, Franciscans and Carmelites.

Life

Honorius was born about 1148 in Rome. Its origin from the house of Savelli is uncertain. In Rome, educated, he was a canon of Santa Maria Maggiore and was ( Camerlengo ) since 1188 treasurer. He is the author of the Liber censuum of 1192, a collection of texts, including the eponymous list of tax revenues of the Roman Church. 1193 was Honorius of Celestine III. included as a Cardinal of Santi Giovanni e Paolo in the College of Cardinals and was from 1194 to 1198 and head of the papal chancery.

His great- nephew Giacomo Savelli was Pope Honorius IV as from 1285 to 1287 one of his successors.
