Portachuelo

Portachuelo is a small town in the department of Santa Cruz in the lowlands of the South American Andean Republic of Bolivia. Founding date of the city is the 8th Dezember 1770.

Location in near space

Portachuelo is the seat of the administration of the province Sara and central place of the district ( bolivian: Municipio) Portachuelo. The city is located in the southern part of the province Sara at an altitude of 301 m on the left bank of the Rio Pirai at the mouth of the Río Guenda.

Fifteen kilometers east of Portachuelo, on the other side of the Rio Pirai, Montero is the capital of the province Obispo Santistevan, a city of nearly 100,000 inhabitants.

Geography

Portachuelo is located in the humid tropical climate of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental. The region was covered before colonization by subtropical rainforest, but today it is mostly cultivated land.
