Obispo Santistevan Province

Obispo Santistevan (also: Santiesteban ) is a province in the northwestern part of the Department of Santa Cruz in the lowlands of the South American Andean Republic of Bolivia.

The province was established on 2 December 1941 and recalls Obispo Santistevan ( 1843-1931 ), the promoter of the construction of the Cathedral of Santa Cruz.

Location

The province is one of fifteen provinces in the department of Santa Cruz. It is bounded on the northwest by the province Ichilo, on the southwest by the province of Sara, on the southeast by the provincial Ignacio Warnes, on the east by the province Ñuflo de Chavez, and on the northeast by the province Guarayos. The provincial capital is the city with 109 503 inhabitants Montero ( update 2012).

It extends between 16 ° 02 'and 17 ° 24' south latitude and 63 ° 02 'and 64 ° 15 ' west longitude, its length from northwest to southeast is 280 km, its average width 45 km. The boundary of the province with neighboring provinces in the east and north-east forms the Río Grande. It has a size of 3673 square kilometers.

Population

The population of the province Obispo Santistevan has risen in the past two decades by more than three quarters:

44.7 percent of the population are younger than 15 years. 98.2 percent of the population speak Spanish, Quechua 27.6 percent, 1.9 percent and 1.2 percent Aymara and Guaraní.

35.5 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 34.2 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

86.5 percent of the population are Catholics, 9.8 percent are Protestant (1992).
