Portugal. The Man

Portugal. The Man is a Founded in 2004, American indie - rock band from Wasilla, Alaska.

Band name

The band's name is the result of deliberation, a name must be personal and could represent a group, a person or even a country. No member of the band had been in Portugal, the decision was purely arbitrary. The addition of "The man " is intended to mean that it constitutes something of an alter ego in the band. "The decision was, after the proposal had been submitted, been decided spontaneously and now would be the need for explanation in every interview ," the band members in unison.

History

Portugal. The Man is founded in 2004 by John Gourley and Zach Carothers of the currently defunct hardcore punk band Anatomy of a Ghost, Wesley Hubbard Nick Klein Harvey Tumbleson and in Wasilla. The band members decide to go to Portland to be closer to the U.S. band scene. There they live a half years of smaller jobs that bring in just enough money to fund the band on. In 2005, she hit on Jason Sechrist, sitting from there on drums.

Their debut album, Waiter: " You Vultures " appears on 24 January 2006 at Fearless Records and is described as a blend of hardcore punk, soul, progressive rock, emo, post-rock and electronic rock. At the year-end charts 2006, the magazine Visions it reached sixth place in Intro to 35th place. The 2007 released EP It's Complicated Being a Wizard moves more into electronic realms and sets a Sequenzertöne extensively. The shortly after appearing second album Church Mouth contains no electronics and is clearly inspired by the rock of the 60s.

They toured previously with bands like The Fall of Troy, Damiera, Action Action, The Matches, Gatsby's American Dream, Horse the Band, Circa Survive, The Black Keys and RX Bandits.

On 5 September 2008, the band released their third album, Censored Colors.

A purely acoustic interpretation of titles from The Satanic Satanist was published under the title The Majestic Majesty. The album sold only online or is included in the Special Edition of The Satanic Satanist.
