Potęgowo, Słupsk County

Potegowo ( German Pottangow, Kashubian Pòtãgòwò ) is the name of a village and a rural community in the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship in powiat Słupski ( Stolp ).

Geographical Location and Transport

The former Guts and farming village Potegowo located in Pomerania, about 30 kilometers east of Slupsk ( Stolp ) between the Łupawa ( Lupow ) and the Leba (Polish Leba ) on the edge of a glacial Talzuges, which is drained by the Darsiner Bach. 1 kilometers south of the village take the road runs 6 ( former German Reich Straße 2, today Europastraße 28) from Szczecin to Gdansk. In the north of the village, the railway station is on the PKP line 202 of Stargard to Gdansk.

Place name

In old documents the place names Pottegow, Pottingowe, Pottenkow and Pottenkaw appear. In the muster roll of 1523 Peter Puttkamer tho Pottegaw is called.

Only 30 kilometers south-east in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, there is another place called Potegowo, formerly in the district of Neustadt ( West Prussia ) located ( German name Potengowo (municipality Linde ) ).

History

In Pottangow there was the most important rampart in the district of Stolp. He lay west of the village on a promontory on which pervaded the Darsiner creek valley, formerly represented a narrow basin. On the land side, a wall was raised to the popularly labeled Schlotkenberg and Sweden hill.

Pottangow was originally a Vorwerk of Darsin (now Polish: Darżyno ) and whose fate has largely divided. In the family history of those of Puttkamer be defined as the possession of this family Darsin and Pottangow 1428-1684 / 86. By then completed sale to the Grumkow they were attached to the possession of complex Lupow ( Łupawa ).

With the complex of goods Lupow Pottangow came to Bonin. Only since the end of the 18th century Pottangow was considered good of its own. 1827 was inherited by Otto Heinrich Ferdinand von Bonin along with other goods in the district of Stolp. Since 1855 was the possession shaft Lupow with Darsin and Pottangow Entailed Estate.

The last owners were on Pottangow Friedrich von Bonin († 1877) and Ernst von Bonin († 1931). After that, the 415 -acre estate was settled. The Restgut took Charles to the angle.

Before 1945 Potttangow was a rural community within the official and civil registry district Grumbkow ( Grąbkowo ) in the district of Stolp in Pomerania Region of the Prussian province of Pomerania. Pottangow formed its own police district, however, was official court oriented to Stolp. By 1945, belonged to the municipality Pottangow the villages Pottangow Station, Pottangow post office and Pottangow settlement.

1939 lived 647 inhabitants in 170 households in 32 residential buildings.

On March 9, 1945 Pottangow was occupied by troops of the Red Army. After transition of the place in Polish administration began the expulsion of the indigenous population. Pottangow received the Polish place names Potegowo.

95 expelled from Pottangow local residents were later identified in the Federal Republic of Germany and 423 in East Germany.

The place is now a part of the eponymous Gmina in the powiat Słupski in the Pomeranian Voivodeship ( to 1998 Slupsk voivodship ). Here today live more than 1,400 people.

Church

Before 1945, the village population was predominantly Protestant denomination of Pottangow. In 1925 the town had 33 Catholic inhabitants (12.7%). Pottangow was in the parish Schurow (now Polish: Skórowo ) incorporated, which also Bonkow (now defunct ), Darsow ( Darżewo ), United Runow ( Runowo ), Karl height ( Chlewnica ), Small Gluschen ( Głuszynko ) Laaske ( Laska ), Long evil ( Pogorzelice ) Schidlitz, Schurow ( Skórowo ) Vangerske (1938-1945 Wiesberg, today Węgierskie ) and Zechlin ( Żychlin ) belonged.

The parish Schurow, in 1940 a total of 3816 members of the congregation counted, was in the church Stolp - old town in the Province of Pomerania Ostsprengel the Church of the Church of the Old Prussian Union. Last German clergyman before 1945 was pastor Heinz Suhr. Today Potegowo lies in the catchment area of the Protestant parish of Holy Cross Church in Slupsk ( Stolp ) in the Diocese of Pomerania - Greater Poland the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland.

Today predominantly Catholic population live in Potegowo. The place is ( still ) in the parish (Polish: Parafia ) Skórowo ( Schurow ), now the dean's office Główczyce ( Glowitz ) in the diocese of Pelplin ( Archdiocese of Gdańsk ) of the Catholic Church in Poland.

School

In the two-stage in 1932, an elementary school teacher taught 99 children in two classes. A second teaching position was added in 1932.

Gmina Potegowo

The Gmina Potegowo based in the village Potegowo is 227.92 km ² large rural community with more than 7,000 inhabitants on the southeast edge of the powiat Słupski in the area between the rivers Łupawa ( Lupow ) and Leba ( Leba ). Neighboring municipalities are: Cewice ( Zewitz ), Czarna Dąbrówka ( Scharz Damerkow ) Damnica ( Hebrondamnitz ) Dębnica Kaszubska ( Rathsdamnitz ) Główczyce ( Glowitz ) and Nowa Wies Lęborska ( Neuendorf ).
