Préhy

Préhy is a commune in the Yonne department ( Burgundy region) in the near Auxerre and Pontigny. The municipality has 132 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011), has an area of 14.00 km ² and is situated at an altitude of 180 meters above the sea. Préhy is located not far from Chablis.

Economy and infrastructure

Préhy is a predominantly by agriculture (viticulture and fruit growing ) embossed village. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The Chablis is the northernmost wine region in Burgundy. On the limestone slopes exclusively Chardonnay is grown. The vineyards spread over Préhy and 19 adjacent municipalities. The winery also have the right, regional appellations Bourgogne, Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne Passe Tout Grain, Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire and Crémant de Bourgogne to use.

Attractions

The Chapel of Notre Dame with murals in relation to the medieval widespread ergotism. The complex situated in the municipal area source Fontaine du Tau was reputed to heal, known as St. Anthony's fire ergot poisoning.

Population

With 132 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Préhy one of the small communities of the department of Yonne. Once the population has decreased in the first half of the 20th century, a slight increase in the population was recorded since the early 1980s again.
