Pretaap Radhakishun

Pretaapnarian Shawh Radhecheran ( Pretaap ) Radhakishun (* 1934, † January 6, 2001 in Paramaribo, Suriname ) was a Surinamese politician.

Life

Radhakishun was on 16 July 1986, the Vooruitstrevende Hervormingspartij ( VHP) Prime Minister of Suriname and held this office until 12 February 1987. From 1988 to 1990 he was then in the Cabinet Shankar Minister for Natural Resources and Energy.

In 1996, shortly before the general election, he resigned from the VHP and became a member of Basispartij voor Vernieuwing s Democracy (BVD ), a splinter party of the VHP. During the tenure of President Jules Albert Wijdenbosch he became Vice President on 20 September 1996 and was as such until his resignation on August 12, 2000, Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

Wijdenbosch was in 2000, forced a year before the end of the regular term of office to call early elections. This was due to emerging mass protests because of the poor economic situation in Suriname and the resulting demand for the resignation of the President. In elections in May 2000 but lost to the former party Wijdenbosch Radhakishuns, the VHP and against the run of Ronald Venetiaan New Front coalition.

Shortly before Radhakishuns death, President Venetiaan that he had instructed Wijdenbosch and Radhakishun to give an account of a secret security fund in the amount of 2.5 million dollars Suriname. While Radhakishun denied the possession of such a fund, stated Wijdenbosch that he will obey the instructions of the President.
