In 1987, the constitution was changed. Thereby, the function of the Premier was abolished and introduced the post of Vice - President with altered powers. Wijdenbosch was until January 1988, the last prime minister. Chin A Sen held by retiring President Johan Ferrier, both the Office of the Premier as well as that of the President. Today the President determines the guidelines of the policy and the Vice - President has the day to day running of the Cabinet.
