Prienai
Listen Prienai? / I ( German Prenn or Prenen, Polish Preny ) is a city and administrative center of the homonymous Rajongemeinde in the center of Lithuania situated on Nemunas. It belongs to the district of Kaunas. A few kilometers away is the spa town of Birštonas. The flow sheet of the Nemunas River where lie both cities, and the trapped peninsula has been declared a regional park. The city has a court, a library and some sport carriers ( for construction of lightweight aircraft, etc.), since it is not far from the airfield Pociunai.
History
The place was first mentioned in 1502 in a deed. 1609 Prienai was awarded city rights.
Since 2008 Prienai is a member of the Association Douzelage cities.
Education
In Prienai there is a Gymnasium ( " Žiburio " ), a middle school, high school, an elementary school, a special school and a youth school.
Sports
There is a sports center in Prienai. "BC Prienai " plays in the Baltic Basketball League ( BBL).
Justice
In the city his seat, the district court Prienai ( court of first instance).

The Rajongemeinde Prienai includes cities Prienai ( 11,353 ) and Jieznas ( 1476 ), town Balbieriškis ( 1180), Pakuonis (680 ) and Veiveriai (1100), 401 villages. It is divided into 10 districts ( seniūnija ).
