Prince George William of Hesse-Darmstadt

Georg Wilhelm of Hesse- Darmstadt ( born July 11 in 1722 in Darmstadt, † June 21, 1782 ) was a Prince of Hesse -Darmstadt.

Life

George William was the second son of Landgrave Ludwig VIII of Hesse- Darmstadt (1691-1768) from his marriage to Charlotte (1700-1726), daughter and heiress of Count Johann Reinhard III. of Hanau.

From 1738 until his death he was in his home country in military service ( Hesse -intestinal Municipal District Regiment), in addition, it was in the 40s owner of a Prussian regiment. He reached the rank of general of cavalry. Georg Wilhelm was considered a military expert of his father and therefore was also a rival of his brother Louis IX. , The Pirmasens expanded as their garrison town.

He married on March 6, 1748 Louise ( 1729-1818 ), daughter of Count Christian Karl Reinhard of Leiningen- Dabo. Georg Wilhelm acquired by his marriage the reigns Broich, Oberstein, Aspermont, Burgel and Reipolzkirchen.

In 1764 Georg Wilhelm received from his father, his older brother Ludwig always preferred him to the Old Palace in Darmstadt, together with associated Lustgarten as a gift. The palace of the White Tower could extend and expand Georg Ludwig. Here he represented the royal family, as his brother was staying largely in Pirmasens.
