Princess Benedikte of Denmark

Princess Benedikte to Denmark and Princess of Sayn -Wittgenstein- Berleburg, full name Benedikte Astrid Ingeborg Ingrid to Denmark ( born April 29, 1944 Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen ) is a member of the House of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg, a branch line of the house Oldenburg.

Princess Benedikte is the younger sister of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

Life

Benedikte is the second daughter of the Danish King Frederick IX. (1899-1972) and his wife Princess Ingrid Victoria (1910-2000), the only daughter of King Gustav VI. Adolf of Sweden and the British Princess Margaret of Connaught. From the marriage of her parents two other daughters, Margrethe Alexandrine Þorhildur Ingrid, the current queen of Denmark, and Anne -Marie Dagmar Ingrid, the last Queen of Greece. When her godparents served, among other King Christian X, Prince Gustav, King Gustav VI. Adolf, Count Sigvard Bernadotte, Sir Alexander Ramsay, Queen Alexandrine, Queen Elizabeth, later the Queen Mother, Princess Caroline Mathilde, Princess Margaret and Princess Ingeborg. The changes in the succession to the throne in 1953 mean that Princess Benedikte was at # 2 on the throne until 1968.

At the wedding of the then Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands with the German diplomat Claus von Amsberg Benedikte met her future husband. On February 3, 1968, she married at Fredensborg Castle Richard of Sayn -Wittgenstein- Berleburg ( born October 29, 1934), eldest son of Prince Gustav Albrecht zu Sayn -Wittgenstein- Berleburg and his wife, the Swedish countess Margareta Fouché d' Otrante. The marriage produced three children: Gustav Frederik Philip Richard ( born January 12, 1969), Alexandra Rosemarie Ingrid Benedikte ( born November 20, 1970) and Nathalie Xenia Margareta Benedikte ( born 2 May 1975).

Tasks

Benedikte and Joachim represented to Denmark as regent Queen Margrethe II as head of state if they and Prince Frederik are prevented.

Benedikte perceives numerous honorary positions, including organizations from the fields of education, education, health, women and horse riding. One focus is the commitment to the Scout movement since she was even Girl Scout in her youth. She is Chair of the Danish Council of Girl Scouts and Patroness of two Danish scout organizations have pushed (Det danske Spejderkorps, De grønne pigespejdere ); internationally it is patroness of Olave Baden -Powell Society, which supports the work of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts financially.
