Province of Castellón

Castellón ( Spanish name; Valencian Castelló) is a province in the Spanish Autonomous Region of Valencia. It has 594 915 inhabitants (2008 ). Its capital is Castellón de la Plana.

Geography

The Castellón province is located on the Mediterranean coast. It is bordered to the north by Catalonia ( Tarragona ), Aragon in the west (Teruel province ) and on the south by the province of Valencia. The provincial capital is Castellón de la Plana.

In Castellón, located in the village Tirig with the Cova dels Cavalls the second most important cave paintings of Spain to Altamira.

Languages

As in the other two provinces of the Region of Valencia (Alicante, Valencia) is spoken in Castellón alongside Spanish Valencian. Since 1982, the Valencian considered as an official language in the region of Valencia.
