Prussian G 5.4

The steam locomotives of the Prussian type G 5.4 were freight locomotives in composite construction. The G 5.4 G 5.3 as well as the distinguished themselves against the G 5.1 and G 5.2 by a shorter wheelbase and a higher boiler location. Through the Krauss- Helmholtz bogie driving characteristics should be improved, especially at higher speeds.

We have built a total of about 750 units of the G 5.4 for the Prussian State Railways 1901-1910. The last 25 locomotives were re- equipped with an Adams axle and referred to as Prussian G 5.5.

Due to its top speed of 65 km / h was also used in passenger transport.

Other tracks purchased this design:

  • Hafenbahn Frankfurt / M: 3 Pieces from 1908, 1910 adopted by the Prussian state railways.
  • Royal Prussian Military Railroad: A locomotive of 1905 ( Borsig, F.Nr. 5856, train number Kgl.Mil.E. 105), adopted in 1919 by the Prussian state railways.
  • Lübeck- Büchener Railroad: Three locomotives of 1906 and 1909, retired by 1936.
  • Mecklenburg Friedrich- Franz Railway: Nine locomotives, actually G 5.5, see Mecklenburg G 5.4.
  • Imperial Railways in Alsace- Lorraine: Three locomotives of 1912, G 5.5, see Alsace- Lorraine G 5.5.

The Reichsbahn took over in 1923 in their renumbering nor 371 (or 341 ) locomotives as 54503-517 and 54801-1156 (or: 54801-54 1143, including, however, the G 5.5); 1925 nor 278 (or 274): redrawn as vehicles 54801-981, 985-1079, 1083 and 1084 ( 54801-982, 54985-1066 and 54 1070-1079 or ). About 22 copies were converted in the twenties in superheated steam locomotives composite. During World War II a number of G 5.4 and G 5.5 came from Poland and Lithuania than 54 from 1101 to 1218 and 54 from 1220 to 1223 in the inventory of the Reichsbahn. The last G 5.4 in Germany were retired by 1951.

The vehicles were a Tender of type pr 3 T 12 (after sample sheet III 5 b ), pr 3 T 15 (after sample sheet III 5 c ) and pr 4 T 16 ( sample sheet III 5 f) equipped.
