As Pub rock a beginning of the 1970s is referred to in England ( mainly in London and Essex ) formed brand of rock that emanated primarily from members of the working class and, especially by a club-like atmosphere and the resulting possible close contact between musicians distinguished audience. Musically Pub rock was mainly a return to the 1950s ( Rockabilly ) and the 1960s, when the Beat and R & B music wave spawned a lively nationwide live music club scene. Formation

The resulting technological progress and greater attendances distance between musicians and audience had Deep Purple have in previous years, the superstar rock to Pink Floyd, Genesis, David Bowie, plunged into a crisis. This can be attributed, among others, was to increasingly complex musical structures and the growing stage equipment. In this crisis had the pub rock success - simple music, performed in small clubs and pubs, the ( excessive solos and the like) did without stage props and without musical virtuosity, but was it created it especially, " the spark to the audience skip " to leave.

Pub rock and punk

General Pub rock is seen as one of the forerunners of punk that became popular in England from 1976. Lee Brilleaux helped to found with a loan Stiff Records, Joe Strummer played with the 101ers pub rock before he was successful with The Clash. In the case of Eddie & the Hot Rods even a whole band first in the pub rock and punk worked. Commercially was pub rock with a few exceptions ( Dr. Feelgood came with the live album Stupidity No. 1 on the charts, Eddie & the Hot Rods landed with Do anything you want to do a hit ) is not successful. This was due to a return deliberation of the pub rock of the 1950s and 1960s, pub rock was not innovative in this sense, on the other hand the fact that the musicians were mostly over 30 years old, already that prevented binding to the youth culture as the Punk took place.

Despite all the musical and stylistic differences pub rock and punk had in common the direct audience participation, which stood for authenticity. Both styles translated to musical simplicity that clearly defected from the complex progressive rock.
