Puhatu is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Illuka ( Illuka vald ). It is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia.

Description

The village has 31 inhabitants ( 2011).

In Puhatu is one of the most extensive marsh areas in Estonia. The Puhatu sooala is over 40 kilometers long and 25 kilometers wide. The total of nearly 600 square miles of moorland extends to Lake Peipus. She is since 1967 a nature reserve.

Inside are numerous lakes. The largest among them is 20.9 acres of Puhatu Lake ( Puhatu järv ). Other lakes are the Viinamardi järv ( 2 acres ), the Korponi järv ( 0.6 hectares), the Puhatu Martiska järv (6.3 hectares) and the Pahasenja järv (2.1 hectares).
