Pui

Pui (deprecated Puiu; German Hühne village, Hungarian Puj ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

Geographical location

The municipality is located north of the Pui Retezat Mountains, at the mouth of the creek Râu Bărbat in the upper reaches of Strei ( Strell ). Located in the southern half of the circle Hunedoara, on the railway line Simeria - Petrosani and European Route 79, the place of small town located about 18 kilometers southeast Haţeg ( Hatzeg ); the district capital Deva ( Deva ) is located approximately 65 kilometers northwest of Pui.

History

The place Pui - a market town - was first mentioned in 1426 and was the seat of a chair in the historic district, county Hunyad of the Hungarian Kingdom. However, the history of the occupation of the site can see - according to a report from DV Rosetti - to the early Bronze Age. On the territory of the municipality (about 4 miles from Pui away on the right side of the Strei ) were, according to reports by G. Téglás, JF tilt Bauer, J. Ackner inter alia, on the grounds referred to by the locals Grădiştea found the remains of a Roman fortification.

The main occupation of the population is under the agriculture, livestock and timber processing. Approximately 52% of the total area of ​​the municipality be processed agricultural. At about 870 acres of corn is grown, which corresponds to 42 % of the acreage (as of 2010 ).

Since 1850, on the territory of the present municipality of the highest population ( 7,432 ) - at the same time the Romanians ( 6610 ) and of Hungary ( 606) - 1910 determined. The highest population of the Germans in 1900 and the Roma (196 ) 1850 registered. Furthermore, some inhabitants known as Serbs (2 in 1930 ), as Ukrainians ( highest population 37 in 1966 ) as well as Slovaks (2 in 1992).

Attractions

  • The south-eastern district of Pui ( built in the 19th century ) and the property No. 71-73 ( built in the 18th century) are listed buildings.
