Puning Temple

The Puning Temple or Temple of Universal Peace and the Puning Monastery (Chinese普宁寺, Pinyin Puning si, English Puning Temple / Temple of Universal Peace ) is one of the Eight Outer Temples in Chengde ( Jehol ) in the Chinese province of Hebei. The Buddhist monastery is located in the north of the park complex of the Summer Palace on the banks of Wulie River. Because of the large gold lacquer - wood statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva - (ge Dasheng ) in his Mahayana Pavilion, he is also called Big Buddha Temple.

The temple was built in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty in the years 1755-1758 and forms in parts of the Tibetan Samye Monastery after. It is built in the architectural style of the Han Chinese and the Tibetans. The plant covers an area of 23,000 square meters. Important buildings are its halls and pavilions Tianwang dian (Hall of Heavenly Kings ), Daxiong baodian ( Mahavira Hall ), Dasheng ge ( Mahayana Pavilion) and Beiting ( plaque Pavilion ).

The Mahayana Pavilion ( Dasheng ge) with its three storeys and six eaves is 36.75 m high, the statue of the thousand-armed Guanyin therein ( Avalokiteśvara ) has a height of 22.23 meters, it is one of the largest wooden sculptures of China. In plaque Pavilion ( Beiting ) are carved inscriptions in four languages ​​in Manchu, Chinese, Mongolian and Tibetan script, attached to the conquest of the Dsungars by Qianlong in Dsungars war ( s) in the Ili (Chinese Yili ) region of Xinjiang 1750s remember.

The Puning Temple ( Puning si) is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 1-115 ) and on the list of world cultural heritage of UNESCO since 1961. He is one of the National Chinese Buddhism temple of focus on Han Chinese territory.
