Punta de Valdez, out as Punta de Valdés and Punta de Valdez, is a village in Uruguay.

Geography

Punta de Valdez is located on the territory of the department of San José in its sector 6 in the Cuchilla Mangrullo. The town is located 30 km south of the regional capital, San José de Mayo. Settlements in the area are in the northwest and in the southeast radial Barrio Cololó - Timosa and the city Libertad. South of the town rises the Arroyo Mauricio, the further south a few kilometers flows into the Río de la Plata. Immediately above the source of the Arroyo Mauricio is that of the Rio San Jose Creek Arroyo Valdez, then the tangent to the eastern edge of Punta de Valdez.

History

Punta de Valdez was on the course of the historic Camino Nacional - a Truppenweg that connected with the West Montevideo Uruguay. With the construction of the Route 1 about 1930 roots of the town began. This important highway was inaugurated in 1937, the same year the local sports club Club Atlético Independiente, which exists to this day started. Infrastructure

The population of Punta de Valdez is 1,491 (as of 2011), of which 739 male and 752 female.
