The Queen Alia International Airport (Arabic مطار الملكة علياء الدولي, DMG Matar al - ʿ Malika Alya ʾ ad - Duwalī; IATA: AMM, ICAO: OJAI ) is an airport located 35 km south of Amman in Jordan. The airport was founded on 25 May 1983 and now has a passenger volume of approximately 4 million passengers and around 45,500 aircraft movements. The airport has two parallel runways ( 08L/26R 08R/26L respectively ) with a length of 3600 m. More than half of the 4 million passengers fly with Royal Jordanian Airlines, which has been based at this airport, to and from Amman.

From the airport is half-hourly bus connection in the Jordanian capital. Taxi transfer is also the costs are about 20 JOD.

The airport is also used by the military and therefore guarded military.

New Terminal

On March 21, 2013, a new terminal was put into operation which can cope with a passenger volume of 9 million passengers annually. In another Phase 2 is an expansion to a capacity of 12 million passengers annually.

The renovation and expansion of the airport will be carried out by the Airport International Group ( AIG), a Jordanian consortium of companies. These include regional investors and international experts. This consortium to build and operate the new terminal for a period of 25 years. The contract was awarded directly by the Kingdom of Jordan.

A rail connection that will connect the airport with downtown Amman, is still under construction.
