Quentin Jackson

Leonard Quentin " Butter" Jackson ( born January 13, 1909 in Springfield / Ohio; † October 2, 1976 in New York City ) was an American jazz trombonist.

Jackson learned the trombone by his brother Claude Jones. He worked in 1930 with Zack Whyte, 1931 McKinney 's Cotton Pickers, 1932 to 1940 with Don Redman 's Orchestra from 1940 to 1948, Cab Calloway and Lucky Millinder.

From 1949 to 1960 he worked as a soloist and sideman with Duke Ellington. After a European tour with the Quincy Jones Big Band 1961-62 he played with Count Basie and played recordings with Charles Mingus, namely, the legendary albums The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady and Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus (1963). After the membership in the bands of Louie Bellson and Gerald Wilson he belonged from 1971 to 1976 the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra at.
