Presumably, coal was mined in the 15th century. In the Thirty Years' War, the village was completely destroyed and depopulated. After the war, the re-colonization began hesitantly.

Origins of the name Quierschied

About the etymology of the name Quierschied there are numerous speculations. A final clarification of the origin is still pending. Here are a few explanations:

  • It is certain that the place names ending in " different " back to Scheid as a term for boundary layers, ridges and watersheds. But it could also mean that emanated from the community forest by deforestation possession of a settler named Quirin (us) or the like.
  • Also named as a possible namesake often the Holy Quirinus. Important indication for this is the first mention Quierschieds under the name Quirineiscet. The family name Quirin is still very common in Quierschied ago. In addition, by Quierschied also flows the so-called Quirinsborn, which also suggests this argument.
  • Quierschied but could also originate from the Old High German word quierna ( mill). Related names in other languages: quern ( Old Saxon ), qairnus ( Gothic), quern ( engl. = hand-mill ), kvarn ( swedish ), guinea ( indogerman. = hard millstone ) and so then would a location in a forest clearing ( or. border in position, ridge, watershed ) with a (water) mill, respectively.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on October 7, 1977.

Blazon: " Over blue Wellenschildfuß in a Gold vierspeichiges black conveyor wheel, covered with a black cross of St. Andrew, the obliquely crossed with two downward twitch silver flash is busy. " ( With the " feed wheel " is a pulley meant. )

The colors of the community are black - yellow.

The community Quierschied is on the basis of § 9 of the Act on the restructuring of municipalities and counties of the Saarland ( Reorganization Act - NNG ) of 19 December 1973 ( Official Journal p. 852) with effect from 1 January 1974 by the merger of hitherto the Office Quierschied belonging to communities Fischbach, Göttelborn and Quierschied been newly formed. Of these former municipalities Quierschied and Fischbach led his own coat of arms, which were used as the basis for the new Quierschieder municipal coat of arms, with the symbolism of the coat of arms acquired images was partially equipped with enhanced content.

The black conveyor wheel points to the great importance of the coal industry for the rapid upward trend in the three districts Fischbach- Campenhausen, Göttelborn and Quierschied past and present. It symbolizes the 18th and 19th century in connection with the Quierschieder glassworks operated in drift mining coal mines and built in the years 1871 and 1887, now disused coal mines Campenhausen and Göttelborn.

The two diagonally crossed silver flashes are available for power generation in coal power plants in Quierschied. Only the network is still the power block Weiher III Evonik Power Saar GmbH.

The black St. Andrew's cross in golden field is the coat of arms of the noble lords of Saarbrücken. This family, owner of the Dagstuhl castle, had - probably before the 13th century - extensive possessions and rights in the territory of Quierschied after their extinction in the 14th century on their Erbnachfolger, the Lords of bridges and Fleckenstein, went over. The Lords of Fleckenstein also took over the arms of the noblemen of Saarbrücken, which has thus to be considered for centuries as a symbol of the owner's family from Quierschied.

The blue Wellenschildfuß indicated generally at first the geographical location of the new community Quierschied in Fischbachtale, but then also the names of two districts, namely Fischbach and Göttelborn that indicate their origin to a creek or to a source.

District coat of arms Quierschied

The coat of arms was approved on 20 June 1953.

Blazon: ". Vierspeichiges In Gold a black conveyor wheel, coated with one of two crossed silver blowpipes occupied black St. Andrew's Cross "

The colors of the local part are black - yellow.

The dominant economic factors in the development of the community are indicated by the wheel as a feed wheel for the coal industry and the blowpipes for operated from 1779 to 1914 Glashütte. St. Andrew's cross and shield color are the arms of the noblemen of Saarbrücken taken which owned land in the municipal area from the 13th century.

The coat of arms was designed by Kurt heraldist Hopp townspeople.

District coat of arms Fischbach

The coat of arms was approved on 14 July 1964.

Blazon: "With a silver wave oblique beams, covered with two blue fish, divided by green and black. "

The colors of the local part are green - black.

It is a so-called canting arms, which will describe the wave beam as Bach symbol and the fish the name and location of the local part on both sides of the creek. The colors silver and blue indicate the membership of Nassau -Saarbrücken, which owes the city in the years 1720-1730 its origin. The colors black and green should refer to the coal industry and the forest wealth.

The coat of arms was designed by Paul Schäfer.

Parish council

The community Quierschied was for decades known as " CDU stronghold " in the Saarland, with mostly clear majority for the CDU in local and municipal council. Could Since 2007, however, when in the mayoral election on June 24, Karin Lawall (SPD ) with 51.07% against incumbent surprisingly Otwin Room ( CDU) enforce, as well as the local elections of 2009, when the CDU 25.8 % of the vote, 9 council mandates and thereby also lost its absolute majority in the municipal council, the label appears to be increasingly doubtful. Since the local elections of 2009, the SPD has 14 mandates for the first time since the Second World War, the strongest party in the municipal council. For the first time since then include representatives of the Left and the Free Voters the council, in addition, the FDP will be represented in the local council for a number of years of abstinence.
