Quintinia sieberi

Quintinia is a genus of flowering plants in the family of Paracryphiaceae. The species of this genus are found in the Southwest Pacific: from the Philippines to New Guinea, Australia ( about four species), New Zealand (about three types ) to New Caledonia ( six species). The genus includes about 14 to 25 species.

Description

The Quintinia species are evergreen shrubs or trees. The alternate and spirally arranged on the branches, stalked, simple leaves have a smooth, toothed or serrated edge. Stipules absent.

There shall be a terminal or axillary racemose inflorescences or eared. The hermaphroditic, flowers are radial symmetry fünfzählig. The five sepals are fused in the lower half. The five petals are free or fused. It's just a circle with five free stamens present. Three to five carpels are fused to an inferior ovary. The style is long and the scar is three to five lobes. They form three to fünffächerige capsule fruits.

System

The classification of the genus Quintinia was controversial. They asked, for example, to the Saxifragaceae or Escalloniaceae. Today it puts them in the Paracryphiaceae family.
