Radovan Somík

Radovan somik ( born May 5, 1977 in Martin, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak ice hockey player who is under contract with HC Pardubice in the Czech Extraliga since 2007.

Career

Radovan somik began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the MHC Martin, for which he was active in the Slovak Extraliga 1993-1998. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1995 in the fourth round as a total 100 players from the Philadelphia Flyers. First, however, the attacker played in the 1998/99 season at HC Dukla Trenčín, before he reached the direct promotion back to the extra league in the following season with the MHC Martin, who was now relegated to the second-class first league.

After the right-handed shooter aground 2000-2002 for HC Zlín in the Czech Extraliga, he was appointed by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2002 to North America, for which he made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2002/03 season. In his rookie year, the Slovak scored in a total of 65 games 20 points scorer for the Americans. In the following season, he ran again mainly for the Flyers in the NHL, where he was also a game for their farm team, the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League denied.

In the summer of 2004 somik signed first with the MHC Martin, who was staying again in the second class 1st League, but moved after only two games to Vsetínská hokejová from the Czech Extraliga. The season 2004/ 05 ended World Champion at the 2002 Malmö Redhawks of the Swedish Elitserien, with which he could not prevent the descent into HockeyAllsvenskan. After the descent, the former NHL player left Sweden and signed with Severstal Cherepovets of the Russian Super League, for which he ran aground, the following two years. Since the 2007/ 08 season, he is the HC Pardubice of the Czech Republic under contract.

Internationally

For Slovakia somik took part in the U20 Junior B World Cup 1995 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 1997. In addition, he was in the squad of Slovakia at the World Championships in 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2008, as well as the World Cup of Hockey 2004.
