Rafael Scheidt

Rafael Felipe Scheidt ( born 1 February 1976 in Porto Alegre ) is a former Brazilian footballer, who was most recently at the Chinese club Shaanxi Chanba FC under contract.

Since his grandfather was German, he is also in possession of German citizenship.

Club career

Scheidt began his professional career in 1995 with his hometown club Gremio Porto Alegre in the first Brazilian league. However, due to an oversupply of strong defensive players he came only brief appearances.

In 1996 he got an offer from the newly formed J- League team Kawasaki Frontale, which he accepted. In Japan, he achieved his immediate breakthrough. He scored 5 goals in 26 games and was elected to the team of the season. This increase in performance has not gone unnoticed in the home, whereupon Gremio decided to bring back the players.

Back at Gremio Scheidt increased continuously and became a national player.

For the season 1999/ 00 Scheidt changed for the equivalent of € 7.2 million to Scotland for Celtic Glasgow. He was the first Brazilian in the Scottish professional league. Scheidt was brought in as a replacement for the long-term injured Marc Rieper, but he injured himself severely, before he had completed a single League game. After auskurierter injury he was in a long-lasting drop in form. He never felt comfortable in Scotland and urged himself to a transfer back to Brazil. Overall, he was only three league appearances for Celtic.

The British newspaper The Guardian in 2001 published a list of the 10 greatest bad investments in the history of professional football, which leads to the transfer of Scheidt to Celtic in second place.

Scheidt was awarded for three years at Corinthians São Paulo, where his form stabilized slowly. When they could not agree on a contract extension in 2003, followed by Atletico Mineiro stations and Botafogo Rio de Janeiro, where he was discharged in 2006. Scheidt played in these years, again with constant shape, but was never able to return to his old strength.

For the 2007 season Scheidt signed a contract with the Chinese first division Shaanxi Chanba FC, ​​where he was until 2008 under contract.

National

Scheidt made ​​his debut on 31 March 1999 in a 2-0 friendly win against Japan for the Brazilian national team.

This year he completed two more matches against Argentina and a game to mark the centennial of FC Barcelona, ​​which is, however, not be counted as an official meeting.
