Rahim Bakhsh

Rahim Bakhsh (Persian رحيم بخش; * about 1921, † 2001) was one of the most popular singers and musicians of the Kabul Art District kharabat in which he had acquired music and singing from an early age on.

Life

Ustad Rahim Bakhsh was a student of Qasem Jo. Maybe he should have been born in 1918 in Kabul kharabat. In an interview with Madadi, he stated that he should be sat one years during the reign of Amir Habibullah Khan ( 1901-1919 ). He died in 2001 in the Afghan-Pakistani border city of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan and was buried there until 2002. After the fall of the Taliban his mortal remains are transferred to Kabul and was buried in Kabul cemetery beside the grave of his music teacher Ustad Qasem Jo.

Ustad Rahim Bakhsh was the second son of Ustad Imam Bakhsh Sarangi. Sarangi was himself a great sarangi player from Kabul kharabat. In the interview with the former music director of RTA Abdul Wahab Madadi he admitted that he had been motivated by his grandfather to learn music. Although all generations of the family were Bakhsh musician himself, he should learn the basics of music and singing from an Ustad outside the family. So his grandfather reported him to the school of music of Ustad Qasem Jo.

All the musicians and singers of kharabat begin with harmonium, tabla and vocal exercises, Solfeggio, at. In the morning they went to the slope of Kabul Sher Darwaza mountain opposite the Assamaiberg to refine their voices. He was awarded the title " Ustad " (Persian استاد ), " Champion " award and he belonged to the generation Mohamed Hussein Hangs Sara, who used the classical Afghan music. Apart from Ustad Sara slope he also was head Kharabats. The task of Kharabatsleiters consisted in the coordination of all activities in the music district of Kabul.

In the later years he sang poems of Persian poets, especially from the Indian Dari poets Amir Khusro and Abdul Qader Bedel and the ragas of Indian classical music. He was very impressed by the Indian Patialaschule. He also sang Raga - Khayal (Persian راک خيال ) ( Traumragas ).

His sons Hossein Bakhsh and Salim Bakhsh put his legacy continued in exile. Among the most famous pieces of music heard the song: "In Tschragh o in Mahfel " ( This light and this festival ).
