Raif Dizdarević

Raif Dizdarević ( born December 9, 1926 in Fojnica, west of Sarajevo) was a Yugoslav politician.

Biography

He participated from August 1943 at the Battle of the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army, in 1944 became a member of the Young Communist League and in March 1945 a member of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia. After the Second World War he worked among others in the diplomatic service and as a union official.

Raif Dizdarević was from 1978 to 1982 Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and 1982-1983 President of the Yugoslav Federal Parliament. From 1984 to 1988 he was the Yugoslav foreign minister and on May 15, 1988 to May 15, 1989 Chairman of the Presidium of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and thus nominally head of state. In this role he held in December 1988 on a friendly visit in Berlin ( GDR ).

Since the collapse of Yugoslavia Raif Dizdarević is no longer politically active. He now works as a writer in Sarajevo.
