Raimu

Raimu, born Jules Auguste César Muraire, ( born December 18, 1883 in Toulon, † September 20, 1946 in Neuilly -sur -Seine ) was a French entertainer and film actor.

Life

He was born as Jules Auguste César Muraire in simple ratios. At the age of 16, he performed for the first time in public. At that time he used the stage name " Raimut ", which later became " Raimu " was. In this first appearance at the Casino of Toulon imitating Félix Mayol and Polin. He appeared before Mayol helped him in 1908 to a first appearance in Paris and in Marseilles and North Africa. As a result Raimu was known as an entertainer and stage actor. From 1912 he took minor roles in silent films, including under Henri Desfontaines in L' homme nu ( 1913). After completing his military service, he came to the theater in 1915. The real breakthrough came in 1929, when Raimu had the role of César Marcel Pagnol in theater trilogy Marius, Fanny and César at the Comédie - Française. He also played the imaginary invalid and Tartuffe in Molière's comedies.

1948 appeared Antoine Toes documentary La vie de Raimu, which depicts the life of the actor and is commented by Marcel Pagnol.

Honors

There is a memorial plaque and the Place Raimu in Toulon is named after the actor to Raimus birthplace in Toulon. In several Asterix volumes Raimu is portrayed: as host Caesar Kneipix in Tour de France, as a publican, the "Sun of Massalia " in the Golden Sickle and as a guest at the celebration of the anniversary of the Battle of Gergovia in Asterix in Corsica. In the French version of Asterix and the Cauldron occurs a Julesraimus, which except for the name, however, has no resemblance to Raimu.
