The Pabellón Raimundo Saporta (until 1999 still Pavilion of la Ciudad Deportiva ) was a multifunctional hall in the north of the Spanish capital Madrid. The sports complex, which on the old training grounds of Real Madrid, Ciudad Deportiva of, was long home to the home games of the basketball team of the club and offered space for around 5,200 spectators. The building was demolished in August 2004 and gave way to the construction site of the Cuatro Torres Business Area.

History

The opening of the arena under the name Pavilion of la Ciudad Deportiva del Real Madrid took place on January 6, 1966 at the course organized by Real Madrid Intercontinental Cup, in which the hosts also Pallacanestro Varese, who attended Chicago Jamaco Saints Corinthians and São Paulo. From 30 March the Final Four of the European Cup of Champions took place in the Pavilion of la Ciudad Deportiva until 1 April 1967. Real Madrid continued in the final against Olimpia Milano through with 93:91 and won the competition for the third time.

For over 20 years the arena should remain the home of the " Royal " during that period, the team celebrated numerous successes, including winning five European Cups as national champion, four Intercontinental Cups, one European Cup Winners' Cup, 17 Spanish championships, 10 Spanish Cups and a Supercup.

Due to the growing audience interest, the club decided in 1986 to a change of the basketball team in the much larger Palacio de Deportes.

Renovation and renaming

In the late 1990s, the basketball team of Real Madrid went through a sporty deep, which was also reflected in declining viewership. The club decided in 1998 to renovate the old arena and to make return to the home stadium. Real Madrid was to play here and celebrated the championship 1999/2000 over five years in the arena. The club's training grounds on the Paseo de la Castellana, which also housed the Pabellón Raimundo Saporta, were sold in 2001 to repay debt. In August 2004, the hall was demolished. Today the skyscraper Cuatro Torres Business Area is located on the grounds of the sports facility.
