Ralph Gebstedt

Ralph Gebstedt ( born October 8, 1971 in Friedrichroda ) is a former German ski jumper.

Career

Gebstedt made ​​his World Cup debut when jumping Four Hills Tournament on December 28, 1989 in Oberstdorf. He finished the competition on the large hill on the 49th Place. Only three days later Gebstedt on 1 January 1990 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen surprisingly reached the number 14. In the Ski Flying World Championships 1990 in Vikersund he reached the 24th place. This was followed by jumping in the World Cup, where Gebstedt usually was not successful and often landed only in the rear box. It was only on 12 January 1991, he reached 11th place while jumping in Oberhof again a top 20 place. When ski flying in Tauplitz he reached on February 23, 1991 13th Place, before he could win the 2nd place on the following day. On March 23, 1991, he reached in the first competition in Planica the 12th Place. A day later, he won on the same jump in second jumping his first and only World Cup and at the same time his first and only ski flying competition. He was thus the last jumper, who won a World Cup competition with the parallel technique, all subsequent victories were achieved only in the V- style. On March 30th, he reached in Štrbské Pleso, again a 4th place in the competition on the normal hill. Following this, the form of Gebstedt subsided and he came in the next World Cup Jumping only top-30 finishes. It was only on 25 January 1992 he was able to draw attention to themselves with an 8th or a 10th place in ski flying again, this time in Oberstdorf. For another two seasons but remained from similar successes in the World Cup. However, he won the ski jumping Continental Cup with 666 points in the overall standings in the season 1993/ 1994. After a resurgent power curve in the 1994/95 season he was able to reach the 3rd place in the normal competition on December 16th, 1995 in Chamonix, France. This was his last podium place in a single jump. On 2 March 1996, he was in the team jumping in Lahti, Finland win on the large hill to the 2nd place. Since thereafter only jumped out mediocre results Gebstedt ended in March 1998 after the Continental Cup competition in Courchevel his active career. He now works as a ski coach at SC Steinbach- Hallenberg.
