Ramblin' Tommy Scott

" Ramblin ' " Tommy Scott ( * June 24, 1917 in Stephens County, Georgia, † September 30, 2013 ) was an American country and rockabilly musician later. The nickname " Ramblin ' " (English for hiking ), he received, as he moved through the United States in his early career with traveling shows. Scott can play piano and guitar.

Life

Childhood and youth

Tommy Scott grew up in a small village near Toccoa, Georgia, in the mountains, about 100 miles from Atlanta. At age 10 he learned to play guitar and performed at Barn Dances on in pubs. After he had finished high school, he joined a Medicine Show, which moved from city to city, there appeared to bring their medicine at the same time to the man.

About 1933 Scott had his first radio broadcast on WTFL in Athens. In the next few years he continued to work at various radio stations, traveled around with vaudeville or appeared in public. In 1937 he met Uncle Pete, who had a Hometown Show, went into the Scott. The show was heard on WPTF in Raleigh, North Carolina. During the next few years he worked at numerous radio stations, pulled by America or stepped on the radio.

Career

Shortly after, Scott was a member of a well-known country band and was also a permanent member of the WWVA Jamboree. 1939 Scott moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where he had a morning radio show at the radio station WHAS. During the day, he has performed with various groups. In the same year he married his wife, Frankie Scott. With her he had a daughter, Yvette Sandre. In Kentucky, he met the country singer Charlie Monroe know and was temporarily a member of his band, the Kentucky Partners. Also around this time he became a member of the WSM Grand Ole Opry, the most famous and successful radio show in the USA for a year. Around 1948 he founded his own vaudeville show, Ramblin ' Tommy Scott 's Hollywood Hillbilly Jamboree. After he had acted in several films in Hollywood (Southern Hayride, Trail Of The Hawk, Hillbilly Harmony), he got his own show on TV in 1948, the Ramblin ' Tommy Scott Show; later, he also hosted the Smokey Mountain Jamboree.

As early as 1941 Scott had taken first plates with Curly Seckler, and this led away over the years. In his career, he worked for King Records, 4 Star Records, Bullet Records and his own label Katona under contract. However, many plates were not published under his name or Scott took this on as a member of a band. He played his first rockabilly title in 1951 at the Federal Records, even if this probably has to be counted for Hillbilly Boogie. In 1954 he took during a session at 4 Star Tex Harper more rockabilly pieces on, including one of his most famous, Cat Music. Shortly thereafter he founded his own record label, the Katona Records, where he took up to the next 30 years in parallel for other label plates.

For the past 30 years, Tommy Scott is seen repeatedly in U.S. television, even in old age. His Medicine Show, he had to give up in the 1990s, because his wife was suffering from Alzheimer's. According to his autobiography, Scott was 90 years old in 2007.
