Rammellzee
Rammellzee ( born 1960 in New York City; † June 27, 2010 ) was an American graffiti artist and hip- hop musician.
Life
Rammellzee was born in 1960 in Far Rockaway in New York's borough of Queens. His birth name he changed from a young age in the artist name Rammellzee.
He was one of the original hip-hop artists who largely shaped the New York style of the 1970s and early 1980s. He designed an aerodynamic writing manner due to a specially developed theory, which he called Gothic Futurism, and his vocal style influenced later bands like the Beastie Boys. Along with Jean -Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, as well as with artists who are better known under the name of their graffiti tags like LEE, Zephyr, Lady Pink, or Futura 2000, Rammellzee was among those the graffiti scene of the jump their illegal Sprühaktivitäten on subway trains gained public gallery exhibitions in art circles recognition.
In the hip-hop film Wild Style in 1982 are seen Rammellzee and his work. The hip-hop documentary Style Wars from 1983 with Beat Bop contained one of his most famous pieces of music, which he had co-produced with Rob K.. The piece grew out of a discussion with the artist Jean -Michel Basquiat. Since Rammelzee and K. Rob the text but did not like, both rapping his own lyrics and recorded the song without the artist on. Basquiat created the cover of the limited Maxi Single. The single was later re-released several times, most recently in 2001.
Rammellzee also appeared in Jim Jarmusch's Stranger than Paradise from 1984 towards the end when the man with the money on.
As of 2003, published Rammellzee again reinforced plates, among other things, on the Munich-based label Gomma.
Rammellzee died on June 27, 2010 in New York City after a long illness. He left behind his wife, Carmela Zagari Rammellzee.
