Ransford Brempong

Ransford Brempong ( born July 22, 1981 in Brampton, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional basketball player who played professionally after completing his studies in the United States in the Netherlands and Germany. The name of the Canadian national player whose surname is common in Ghana, usually abbreviated as Rans Brempong. After 2011 Brempong was professional no longer active, having already had persistent knee problems before.

Career

During his studies at Western Carolina University Brempong played from 2000 to 2005 called for the Catamounts high school team in the Southern Conference of the NCAA Division I. The Catamounts are not very successful basketball team and were only once in 1996 winner of this Conference, which was before his student days. He was injured en in the 2003/ 04 NCAA season after a game: redshirted reported, which means that he was not eligible to play this season and therefore was allowed to play his final college game fourth time later. The Catamounts he is by far the best shot blocker of all time with 308 blocks and just under 2.7 blocks per game. There are in the history of the Catamounts no player who scored in a season more than Brempong blocks in each of his four seasons, so that he has are the four best performances in the category this shot blocking per season in the annals of the Catamounts to book.

After studying Brempong played from 2005 in the Dutch Nijmegen as a professional in the local top division Eredivisie. In 2007 he was with the Matrixx Magixx Dutch Cup winner. He then moved to BBL season 2007/ 08 in the highest German league Basketball Bundesliga giants Bayer Giants Leverkusen. After a good third place in the main round, the Giants were knocked out in the first round, the quarter finals, the play-offs for the championship. After the first division license Leverkusen club was sold to Dusseldorf. Brempong moved back in the Dutch Eredivisie for the Capitals to Groningen and played in the summer of 2008 for the national team of his country at the qualifying tournament in Athens for the Olympic Games in 2008. Through the elimination in the quarterfinals to eventual Olympian Croatia missed Canada to qualify for the actual Olympic tournament, which took place three weeks later at the same place. Brempong stood for his country never in a final squad. After a season in Groningen he returned, among other things due to an injury back in the squad now operating as a gas Terra Flames association. In the pre-season BBL season 2010/11 he stood as a test player in the squad the Giants Dusseldorf and could be recommended for a contract. Thus he returned to the Giants back, though this time not to Leverkusen, but according to Dusseldorf, where the Giants are home since his departure in 2008. After the descent of Düsseldorf in the ProA he left the club again.
