Raymond Bailey

Raymond Thomas Bailey ( born May 6, 1904 in San Francisco, † April 15, 1980 in Irvine, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Bailey moved already to be a film actor as a teenager to Hollywood. Since the success failed to materialize first, he hired himself at times as a day laborer before he moved to New York to make it there to try at a theater. As well as this venture was unsuccessful, he was for some years a sailor on a freighter. His second start in the movie business in 1938 was a little better, and until 1942 he received minor roles in nearly 30 films, but usually without attribution in the credits. With the entry of the USA into the Second World War, Bailey joined the merchant navy.

1944 Bailey managed a first engagement on Broadway, the play Last Stop but was dismissed after 23 performances. Only with the beginning of the 1950s took his acting career back on swing. He had, among other roles in Billy Wilder's Sabrina, and Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo and larger roles in the B-movie classics Tarantula and The Incredible Mister C. In addition, he was a much booked guest star of television series like Alfred Hitchcock Presents, 77 Sunset Strip, Bonanza. He also appeared 1953-1955 in various productions on Broadway, including as Captain Southard in 415 performances of The Caine Mutiny Court- Martial ( Caine - The mutiny in court) with Henry Fonda in the lead role.

He played his most famous role from 1962 in the sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies. Until 1971, he played in 247 episodes of the bank director Milburn Drysdale. After the series was canceled, he played two more film roles ( including the Disney production Herby large momentum ), before he sat down to rest.
