Raymond Gallois-Montbrun

Raymond Gallois - Montbrun ( born August 15, 1918 in Saigon, † August 13, 1994 in Paris) was a French violinist and composer.

Life

Gallois Montbrun - studied from 1930 to 1942 at the Paris Conservatoire violin with Firmin Touche, harmony with Jean Gallon, counterpoint and fugue with Noël Gallon and composition with Henri Busser. After a second Grand Prix 1942, he won in 1944 with the cantata Louise de la Miséricorde the Premier Grand Prix de Rome.

After connected to the price stay at the Villa Medici in Rome ( 1946-1948 ) he attended from 1952 to 1954 classes for violin and composition at the Institut Francais in Tokyo. Since 1944, he traveled through Europe as a violinist, North Africa, the Middle and Far East and played a radio and recordings. In 1955 he was honored as a composer with the Prix de la Ville de Paris, 1957, he was awarded for the chamber opera Le Rossignol de l' Empereur the Prix Italia.

1957 Gallois Montbrun - director of the Conservatory of Versailles, 1962-1983, he headed the Conservatoire de Paris, next to 1967 also the Société des Concerts. In 1980 he followed Paul Paray after as a member of the Académie des Beaux -Arts. From 1983 to 1992 he headed the Long - Thibaud International Concous.
