Raymond Queneau

Raymond Queneau ( born February 21, 1903 in Le Havre, † October 25, 1976 in Neuilly, near Paris ) was a French poet and writer. His most famous work is the novel Zazie dans le métro.

Life

Even in his youth had Raymond Queneau contact with the French Surrealists. In 1949 he was among the first signatories of the manifesto of the Collège de ' Pataphysique ( artist group ' Pataphysics ), which dates back to the poet and playwright Alfred Jarry. As a result, he and François Le Lionnais the artists OuLiPo movement, which also included the writer Georges Perec and Italo Calvino. At the same time, he worked as director of the Encyclopédie de la Pléiade for the prestigious Gallimard. In 1951 he became a member of the Académie Goncourt. With his 1959 novel, Zazie dans le métro ( German: Zazie in the Metro), which describes the adventures of a country girl in Paris, Queneau became famous. The book was in the following year by Louis Malle filmed ( German title Zazie ).

The anecdote " Bus 5" is narrated in 99 variants and is experimenting Queneau with the French language through all styles, slang and dialects up to the phonetics.
