The Recknitz Ribnitz -Damgarten

The Recknitz is a river in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern and namesake of the Office Recknitz - Trebeltal.

Course

The Recknitz is 88.9 km long and drains an area of 669 km ². It rises north of Teterow between Warnkenhagen and Dalkendorf as Schaalbeke and flows Ribnitz Damgarten in the Saal Bodden.

The Schaalbeke rises on a high-lying ground moraine. From Diekhof the water is referred to as Korleputer mill creek. After reaching the Recknitzurstromtales at Liessow the Bach bifurkiert and flows as Recknitz to the northeast and as Augraben to the southwest. The Augraben opens in Güstrow in the fog.

The most important tributaries of the Recknitz are the Pludderbach, the Polchowbach, the Reppeliner Bach, Maibach, school Berger mill creek that Tribohmer Bach and the Bach Templar. She touches or passes through the cities Laage, Ticino, bathroom brawn, Marlow and Ribnitz Damgarten.

Since the beginning of the 20th century Recknitz was straightened and largely ameliorated the Rivervale extensive. The last straightening took place in 1959. The original flow length of 122.2 kilometers was reduced to 68.7 km Through these measures. The river below the town of Marlow to the mouth was not affected by the straightening. In the years 2000/2001 the Recknitz between Bad brawn and Dudendorf was placed on a length of 9.4 kilometers back to their old river bed.

From Bad aspic the Recknitz flows into a glacial valley, the Mecklenburgisch - Vorpommern Grenztal. Between Bad brawn and Marlow has the Recknitz depths of about 1.5 m. Below the town of Marlow it is deep to about 4 m. From Bad brawn to the mouth has the Recknitz on a stretch of 20 km only a gap of 30 cm. The resulting high water levels in the Saal Bodden become noticeable to Bad aspic. The mean river discharge at gauging Bad aspic is 3.1 m³ / s

The lower Recknitz ( Bad brawn to Ribnitz Damgarten ) is the historical border between Mecklenburg and Pomerania.

History

The river was first mentioned in documents as Reknicza in 1250. The name derives from the Slavic word for Reka river and means something like " Little River ".

Tourism and conservation

From Ticino it is possible throughout the year to cruise the Recknitz by canoe.
