Red Armstrong

Standard Gerrard "Red" Armstrong ( born October 17, 1938 in Owen Sound, Ontario, . † 23 July 1974 in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who from 1960 to 1973 among others for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League has played.

Career

Standard Armstrong began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey Association, in which he was active from 1958 to 1960 for the Sarnia Legionnaires and the Wallaceburg Hornets. Subsequently, Armstrong spent two years playing in the Eastern Hockey League for the Charlotte Checkers and the Philadelphia Ramblers, before he was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs, for whom he two points scorer, including a goal scored in the 1962/ 63 in seven games, and with whom he this season won the Stanley Cup. Since he had not completed enough games, his name was not engraved on the trophy. From 1962 to 1971 Armstrong stood for Toronto's farm team, the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, on the ice, with which he in 1965, 1966 and 1968 respectively to the Calder Cup won. In February 1971 Toronto, which still had the transfer rights to the Canadians gave Armstrong at the Springfield Kings from, with whom he subsequently for the fourth and last time the Calder Cup won. After Armstrong ran aground in the 1971/72 season for the Baltimore Clippers, he finished his career in 1973 at his former club Rochester Americans.

Standard Armstrong died on 25 July 1974 at the age of 35 years in a work accident. Then locked his longtime club, the Rochester Americans, his number 6, he was included in addition the Rochester Americans Hall of Fame in 1986.
