Renaissance (Band)

Renaissance ( English pronunciation [ re'neɪsəns ] ) is a British progressive rock band.

When the Yardbirds broke up in 1968, Keith Relf and Jim McCarty founded an experimental rock band Renaissance. The quintet was completed by Louis Cennamo (bass ), John Hawken ( piano) and Relfs sister Jane (vocals ). With this lineup they recorded two albums Renaissance and illusion, and then parted. McCarty assembled a new band, which he, however, soon left himself. As of 1977, the founding members joined together for a short time to the formation illusion.

The new lineup consisted of Annie Haslam ( vocals), Michael Dunford ( acoustic guitar ), who had the illusion album the song Mr Pine contributed, John Tout ( piano ), Jon Camp ( bass) and Terry Sullivan (drums). Together with Rob Hendry ( electric guitar ) brought Renaissance 1972 album Prologue out. The music came mainly from Dunford and McCarty, the lyrics by Betty Thatcher.

In the 1970 Renaissance was quite successful in 1978, the band had with Northern Lights from the album A Song for All Seasons a hit ( number 10 of the UK singles chart ).

In the 1980s, the success abated, and the band broke up. In the 1990s, some compilations appeared. End of the 90 had both Haslam and Dunford new bands, which they called Renaissance. In the late 1990s reformed Haslam and Dunford Renaissance with a common band.
