Background

In A Song for All Seasons electric guitar was the first time since Ashes Are Burning played again, but very decent. Jon Camp was increasingly involved in the song- writing and also performed as a singer in appearance. The orchestral arrangements were created by Louis Clark ( keyboardist of the Electric Light Orchestra ), except for She Is Love, which was arranged by Harry Rabinowitz. The orchestra participated was the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The single from the Northern Lights reaching # 10 in the UK singles charts. The album seems a little pop- oriented than its predecessor.

Reviews

However, "Unique highlight of the plate is the closing track A Song For All Seasons. Rarely has an intro of a song (takes the least about four minutes) so complex - not related to the instruments, it sounded xylophone, wind instruments of all kinds, driving drums and strings, but also on the mood and tempo changes. The collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra rounds in particular this song very well. The relaxed middle part, dominated by keyboards and guitar, then follows to conclude with a hymn-like chorus that makes this song one of the best in the history of the band. At the same time it forms a worthy conclusion to a very listenable album. It should unfortunately be the last in the extensive discography. "

" Sound-wise this is all very well and actually very catchy (David Hentschel at the controls, the Hentschel, who had also produced Elton John's masterpiece Yellow Brick Road, GENESIS produced and RENAISSANCE something more ' Guitar' tailored here on the body ), compositionally very demanding - but overloaded. Not necessarily recommended - but the Dreamer - which is great! "

" Given its date of release, A Song For All Seasons Must be Considered as a Considerable triumph. While Yes, ELP, Gentle Giant, Star Castle and other groups were releasing inferior product, Renaissance managed to create a work Which ranks close to their best material. If Song For All Seasons Is not quite as good as Turn Of The Cards, Ashes Are Burning or Prologue, it at least Has the distinction of coming very close. Renaissance Seemed to be immune from the onrushes of punk and AOR; if there was a minor capitulation Involved, what it more in the direction of Euro -pop than anything else ... which is to say thatthis, capitulation 'still allowed the group to operate within normal parameters Their. "

" A Song For All Seasons ' has a leading position within the Renaissance discography, just also because the music can cover various claims of listeners from my perspective for me. For very well done, I think the actually almost unspectacular integration of the orchestra, because the strings never an overtly and attempts to steer the direction clearly there. Rather, it is an important co-determining part within the music, and that is / was not always so in similar experiments with a merger of U- and E - music. In this respect, an important aspect of the assessment. "

" With this album the band moved to the deeper realms of commercial oriented music, but there are quiet some very beautiful moments on it. "
